I was handed out the award at the Blues Cruise Festival by Arie Verheul from the Dutch Blues Foundation. I am very honored for receiving this award, it is another crown on the hard work and the passion that me and Vera are putting into our musical projects. NEW ALBUM: PREACHING THE BLUES BIG BO – Nieuw album en theater voorstelling Op vrijdag 16 februari zal Big Bo zijn nieuwe album “Preaching The Blues” presenteren in het Rietveld Theater (aanvang 20:00 u), tijdens de opening van het Affligem Blues Festival Delft. Op de nieuwe CD van Big Bo (Bo Brocken) staan 12 authentieke blues nummers die zijn opgenomen met slechts één microfoon, een BBC Marconi AXB uit ±1937. De opnamen zijn dus live in mono ingespeeld in één middag, precies op de manier zoals dat werd gedaan in de jaren ’20 en ’30. Met deze CD waan je je terug in de tijd van de katoenpluk in de Mississippi Delta rondom de plantages als Dockery Farms en Stovall Plantation. BIG BO – PREACHING THE BLUES – THE RECORDINGS In februari 2018 gaat mijn nieuwe solo-voorstelling “Preaching The Blues” van start. Uiteraard hoort bij een nieuwe voorstelling ook nieuwe muziek. Ik zocht hiervoor zo’n 16 nieuwe songs bij elkaar, nog aangevuld met werk dat ik al wat langer speel. Het betreft een complete (tijd)reis van zo’n 100 jaar langs de Mississippi, van halverwege 1800 tot eind jaren 1940. En in sommige gevallen moet ik daarvoor ook behoorlijk uit mijn muzikale “comfort zone” stappen. Zo’n nieuwe voorstelling vraagt natuurlijk om nieuwe opnamen. I have been writing so much in the past and still feel like writing a lot more. There is so much I want to say, so much I want to share with you, the beautiful adventures, heartfelt stories and intensive traveling through the world and mind. DUTCH BLUES AWARD uitreiking

Best Dutch Blues CD 2015. De uitreiking. Op 2 april 2016 werd tijdens het Bluesfestival in Theater De Roepaen te Ottersum de award uitgereikt voor Best Dutch Blues CD 2015. Tijdens mijn show kwamen Dirk de Hen (bestuurslid Dutch Blues Foundation) en Janny van Doorn (Dutch Blues Foundation) het podium op. Na een prachtige en zeer persoonlijke toespraak kreeg ik de award voor mijn cd “Traveling Riverside” overhandigd. Deze werd ontworpen en gemaakt door Leo Gabriels en ziet er werkelijk schitterend uit. Mijn speciale dank gaat uit naar de Dutch Blues Foundation, Ruurd van der Vegt (harmonica op Traveling Riverside), Kristof Devos (hoesontwerp) en natuurlijk Vera van Faassen, voor al het werk dat ze erin heeft gestoken en dat nog doet. Wat een geweldig nieuws kreeg ik gisteren. Mijn kersverse cd “Traveling Riverside” was al genomineerd door de Dutch Blues Foundation en een vakjury bestaande uit recensenten en radiomakers, gisteren werd bekend dat ook het publiek massaal op mijn cd heeft gestemd. De cd wint de DUTCH BLUES AWARD voor BEST DUTCH BLUES CD 2015 en gaat dan ook dit jaar mee naar Memphis voor de wereldwijde prijs in de categorie BEST SELF PRODUCED CD 2015. Wat een fijne waardering en een ontzettend mooie schouderklop. Dank aan iedereen die op mijn cd heeft gestemd en mij al die jaren heeft gesteund.
