I have been writing so much in the past and still feel like writing a lot more. Big Bo on a Weissenborn

BLOG – Big Bo on a Weissenborn. Oorspronkelijk bedoeld voor het spelen van Hawaiiaanse muziek, heeft de Weissenborn inmiddels ook zijn weg gevonden naar de Country, Bluegrass en Blues. Het instrument wordt liggend op schoot bespeeld met een steel bar. Van de originele Weissenborn lapsteel gitaren, gemaakt in de jaren ’20 en ’30 zijn er maar zo’n 5000 geproduceerd. Niemand weet hoeveel exemplaren er op de wereld nog precies bestaan, maar ze zijn uiterst zeldzaam. Gelukkig bestaan er nog een paar luthiers (gitaarbouwers) die het instrument nog bouwen naar het oude voorbeeld van de meester Hermann C. Weissenborn. Best Dutch Blues CD 2015. De uitreiking. Op 2 april 2016 werd tijdens het Bluesfestival in Theater De Roepaen te Ottersum de award uitgereikt voor Best Dutch Blues CD 2015. Tijdens mijn show kwamen Dirk de Hen (bestuurslid Dutch Blues Foundation) en Janny van Doorn (Dutch Blues Foundation) het podium op. Na een prachtige en zeer persoonlijke toespraak kreeg ik de award voor mijn cd “Traveling Riverside” overhandigd. Deze werd ontworpen en gemaakt door Leo Gabriels en ziet er werkelijk schitterend uit. Mijn speciale dank gaat uit naar de Dutch Blues Foundation, Ruurd van der Vegt (harmonica op Traveling Riverside), Kristof Devos (hoesontwerp) en natuurlijk Vera van Faassen, voor al het werk dat ze erin heeft gestoken en dat nog doet. Wat een geweldig nieuws kreeg ik gisteren. Mijn kersverse cd “Traveling Riverside” was al genomineerd door de Dutch Blues Foundation en een vakjury bestaande uit recensenten en radiomakers, gisteren werd bekend dat ook het publiek massaal op mijn cd heeft gestemd. De cd wint de DUTCH BLUES AWARD voor BEST DUTCH BLUES CD 2015 en gaat dan ook dit jaar mee naar Memphis voor de wereldwijde prijs in de categorie BEST SELF PRODUCED CD 2015. Wat een fijne waardering en een ontzettend mooie schouderklop. Dank aan iedereen die op mijn cd heeft gestemd en mij al die jaren heeft gesteund. February 7, 2016: Heading back home and suffering jet lags It is strange, being in Missississppi for just two weeks makes you don’t want to leave forever. We had a hard time saying goodbye and we felt like we didn’t want to go back to the country we live in. In the Netherlands we can imagine ourselves we have a “good life” (though I am not pretty sure about that anymore over the last 15 years), and although Mississippi is poor, we felt in some way that the people are more easy going, and that there is a lot of hope and happiness. January 30, 2016: BIG BO – IBC16 – FINALS – On our last day in Memphis we headed over to the Orpheum to see the Finals of the IBC16. The Orpheum is a huge theatre in classic 20’s style. The finals would take 8 long hours so we didn’t get the chance to see all of the acts performing there when we went outside for some food and do a little shopping, but we saw most part of it. The Orpheum was almost sold out and we saw The Delgado brothers perform a great set. What I thought would be the winners proved right: The Delgado Brothers won the IBC16 in the band category.
